Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan celebrates the work of famous Elizabethan playwright William Shakespeare. The 2012 festival performances are performed in a large tent on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River, in downtown Saskatchewan. Featuring only actors from Saskatchewan, performances run from July 11th to August 26st. Performance tents are located next to the Mendel Art Gallery – look for performances of As you Like it and Hamlet this summer.
Venues across Saskatoon fill with the sounds of jazz, as the 2012 Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival comes to the city June 22nd through July 1st. Featuring ticketed and free venues across downtown Saskatoon, everyone can enjoy the music. Saxophonist Wayne Shorter performs on the Broadway Theatre stage June 23rd, with The Roots returning to the festival to play July 1st on the TD Mainstage in Bessborough Gardens. Prince Albert, set on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, is a hub of commerce and culture for the northern Saskatchewan region. Celebrate the summer season at the 2012 Prince Albert Exhibition Summer Fair. Festivities run July 31st through August 4th with events including livestock and agriculture exhibits, Chuckwagon races, and Grandstand entertainment. The 129th Annual PAEX Summer Fair is held at the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds east of downtown Prince Albert.
Craven, thirty minutes north of Regina hosts July’s Craven Country Jamboree. Billing itself as the World’s Greatest Country Music Festival, Craven’s 2012 Country Jamboree is July 12th through the 15th. Mark the calendar for a trip to the green covered hills of the Qu’Apelle Valley, stretching below Saskatchewan’s endless blue sky. Brad Paisley tops a stellar lineup of performances including Alan Jackson, Ronnie Milsap and Blake Shelton, among the list.
